Going Going Green

Cleaning Your Microwave Chemical Free

Ok, I'm guilty and I know I am not the only one.  You put something in the microwave and it pops, cracks, or downright explodes all over.  Sometimes something just bubbles off onto the plate.  Hungry, we resolve to clean it up after we eat and then, we just forget until the next time we are hungry and the cycle repeats until one day we open the microwave and...yeah....a culinary crime scene.

So what do you do?  Do you spray a chemical that you risk going airborne and contaminating new foods?  Do you just wipe it out leaving food and traces behind?

Well I found a simple and effective way to clean my microwave without a single chemical and now I'm happy to share it with you.

All you need is a large hand towel that you can soak to the point it won't hold any more water and put it in your microwave.  Turn it to high heat and nuke it till the towel is little more than hot and damp (usually about 10 minutes).

The steam breaks away the food and makes wiping it down simple and easy.  I usually just grab a pair of tongs and use the hot towel to wipe down the microwave.  In especially bad cases I'll do a couple of treatments if needed.  But when you are done, you have a nice clean and sanitized microwave ready for your next dining experience.

Simple and Effective.

Hope this Helps.

 Shocked

Wow!  This actually works!  I love the idea of being able to get my microwave sparkling clean without having to worry about the next foods I cook there.

Question, though: Would this work in my regular oven?  My pies leak, and I don't seem to be smart enough to put a cookie sheet below it to catch those drippings....
