Going Going Green

« on: June 21, 2010, 01:30:33 PM »

In so many ways, this has to be one of the most heated topics of the Green movement. Which one is more friendly to the environment, paper or plastic bags?

People really do seem to be on one side of this ecological fence.

From a standpoint of carbon emissions, they're equally bad. Plastic is worst from a solid waste perspective. But plastic is a littering problem in many places in the world.

Either way, paper and plastic bags waste fuel of garbage trucks and fill space in land fills.  Using either one more than once at the grocery store lessens the impact of either.

Most environmentally friendly of all, as you already know, is bringing your own reusable bags.  However, if you have a larger family, this could be quite an initial cost.  Consider buying a bag or two at a time or reloading bags into the trunk when your finished.
